Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind: 30 Plays in 60 Minutes, the weekend show at the Neo-Futurarium, is the longest-running show in Chicago, first performed in 1988. The plays are all based on reality and the real-life experiences of the performers. Audience participation is encouraged and the pace is fast, skipping from comic to tragic, political, musical and abstract in the blink of an eye. The aim of the Neo-Futurism group is to strengthen the human bond between performer and audience, the more sincere and genuine performers can be on stage, the greater the audiences identification with the unadorned people and issues before them. This is an embracing a form of non-illusory theater, which presents our lives and ideas as directly as possible. All the plays are set on the stage in front of the audience. All the characters are themselves. All the stories really happened. All the performers' tasks are actual challenges. The aim is not to "suspend the audience's disbelief," but to create a world where the stage is a continuation of daily life.
